Metacogsec refers to the entangled, nested, multiscale nature of
cognition and the collectivized cognition inherent in frames,
discourses, rituals, and semiotic feedback loops — taking caution
and agency against the intensified, media-saturated,
reality-modulating, hyperintelligent cogsec threats of the
present.
Ordinary cognitive security defends a single mind against
manipulation: propaganda, attention capture, deception.
Metacogsec begins one scale outward and one scale inward at once.
Outward: cognition is a property of the systems that
already think through us — discourses, scenes, platforms,
rituals, interfaces, institutions, atmospheres, models, feeds.
Inward: cognition rests on a presubjective plane that
decides what is even thinkable before any subject weighs in.
A discourse thinks. A frame thinks through a room. A platform
trains perception. A meme recruits attention. A ritual
reorganizes agency. A media system modulates reality before any
subject forms an opinion.
Metacogsec is the security practice appropriate to that
condition. Its task is to perceive the loops that modulate
reality, refuse involuntary capture without retreating into
private cynicism, repair collective sensemaking, and remain
capable of thought inside an environment whose persuasive
intensity is now measured against a moving threshold of
synthetic intelligence.
